Customer Rating: Summary: Turbo Bell Adjustable Weight Dumbbell with Stand, TB560 Comment: After your last repetition, don't drop these on the mat like you would with a regular solid dumbbell. It could cause the spacer inside the dumbbell to break which prevents the weights from being released from the unit, which happened to mine.
I called Performance Fitness Systems (1-888-999-9490) and talked to Rick. He was very helpful. I had to do some troubleshooting to the unit because Rick and I did not want to send the unit back as a whole, because it's heavy. So, after opening up the unit, I discovered that one of the larger spacers broke which causes one of the larger weights to not to be able to get released from the dumbbell. Rick had 3 new spacers sent to me. Since the incident, I am more careful to try not to drop it down hard after the last rep. and the they worked great since. I've been using it for about a month and a half now.
Customer Rating: Summary: Happy with dumbbells but not with Amazon. Comment: My dumbbells arrived today. The dumbbells seem well built and solid and easy to adjust, but... They came in three boxes. One each for a dumbell and one for the stand. One of the dumbbell boxes had obviously come open and been re-taped. The base that holds the dumbbell was missing. Individual plates are held in the base when using a weight other than 60#. Without the base the dumbbell is not usable except as a 60 pounder.
The seller is listed as Performance Fitness Systems. I received an e-mail saying they shipped from Source-Plus.com. I attempted to call PFS and all phone numbers listed were disconnected. Their website no longer exists either. I contacted Amazon and got the, oh so common, Middle Eastern call center. I was informed that Amazon is not responsible for resellers and that I would have to contact Performance Fitness Systems. I explained that their numbers were disconnected. I was again informed that I must contact the reseller. Finally after being on hold for 15 minutes I was told a claim would be filed "Is there anything else?" I ende up tracking down contact info for Source-Plus. Talked to a guy named Rick and he said they would send me a base. I guess we'll see. Right now I have a $329.00 door stop.
I think from now on I'll stick to only ordering books from Amazon. If that.
Customer Rating: Summary: Great Set of Weights! Comment: I've had these for about a week and already love them.
The weights themselves are very sturdy; there is very little motion in between the individual plates (so not much noise either). The fact that they go from 5 all the way to 60 is a big plus as most of the comparable sets only go up to 50. The 2.5 increments they advertise is actually an off balance weight (set one half of the dumbbell for 35 and the other half for 30, for example) but still seems to work out alright.
Their so called "Hammer Handle" actually makes a big difference as well (to my surprise). Coming from round, steel handles on your standard dumbells, they allow me more control. I was able to control the dumbbells more easily at a higher weight than I was before. All it really is a handle with flat edges on either side, coated in rubber, but it makes a noticable difference.
My only complaints are that the stand is ugly (not really a big deal) and that the instruction booklet comes with 8 steps to assemble it (the stand), none of which have pictures. It references parts, but no parts are labeled. The stand is pretty easy to put together, but you need to lay it out and figure it out on your own. The weights are kind of large but most adjustable dumbbells I've seen have been.
Overall a great product and I'm very staisfied. Would have given it 4.5 stars if I could have due to the small drawbacks. But the price and quality of these, especially when compared to the price and space a traditional set of dumbells would cost, more than makes up for it.
Switching between different weights is very easy, you just put the bell on the rack and move the corresponding levers according to the diagrams on the weights. The plastic levers and the discs they are attached to that hold the weights also appear to be very strong.
