Customer Rating: Summary: Cheap but Expensive Comment: I bought my first heavyrope about twenty-five years ago. I used it for two or three years, and then put it away for a long time. I brought it back out about a year ago and started using it again until it broke (the rubber broke away at the handle, spraying sand all over the place). Then I bought this model (the 5 pounder) as a replacement.
The new rope, despite its high cost, does not seem to be nearly as sturdy or well made as the previous model. Perhaps the worst of it is that the handles are held on, at least in part, by two small metal staples. No kidding-- crummy junk metal staples driven through cheap plastic handles. Not exactly deluxe construction, which is too bad given the high price.
I do not know how durable this rope will be, so my score is tentative. If it lasts longer than two years I would probably up my score to four stars, but if it fails before then (which seems likely at this point) I would reduce my score to one star.
My advice would be to proceed with caution, and check out other brands before buying. At $55, this rope is grossly overpriced given the questionable quality of construction.
The company I bought this from, Dazadi, was fine-- no problems in that regard. They shipped quickly, there were no complications, and I would buy from them again.
